Clearing the Static 2450
There's one thing that all the format changes this week have in common, and that is that they all take place in warm climates. First, we go to West Palm Beach for a station dropping Spanish for English Christmas music, then it's to Hawaii for six flips, a rebrand in Bakersfield, and a flip in Phoenix.
Clearing the Static 2449
It's a quiet week this week. The big story is that horror author Steven King is shutting down his three radio stations in Maine. We also have a few sales to cover, but then we discuss the cuts at Cumulus, which leads into a broader discussion of the state of the industry.
Clearing the Static 2448
For the first time in a while, we're actually at a loss for topics to talk about towards the end of the program. Before that happens though, we do have a few stories to get to, including the AC hole in Greenville Spartanburg likely being filled after Christmas, a big deal in West Virginia that probably won't see many changes, and a buyer for two of the Jam Media Solutions stations in North Carolina's Outer Banks.
Clearing the Static 2447
We start out with some news from last week, including the conservative talk format of KSFO moving to KGO. Also in this week's news, EMF continues to expand with the purchase of a station in Burlington, VT and another from the Woodward Midwest deal. Those are the big stories, but there's lots more covered this week.

Clearing the Static 2446
It's another show this week.
We start out with a couple of developments in upstate New York,
including a strange development involving two stations being acquired,
threatened with closure, then getting at least temporary new life.
Next, a major ownership shakeup is coming to Springfield, IL. That, plus
hip-hop is coming to Scranton, and a few other changes this week.
Radio Serena Show 408

Clearing the Static 2445
We start this week's show with major cuts across the industry, particularly at iHeart Media. Then, 100.3 in New Orleans has hit the streets, and a new wolf has entered Providence. Also, EMF continues to grow, two Christian operators in Ohio merge, and a station in Texas has ceased operations. All that and more this week.
Clearing the Static Show 2444
t's another addition of CTS this week. Among the stories covered this week, Media Co has launched a pair of Spanish language HD channels in New York. This leads to more speculation about the future of 98.7. In other Spanish news, could 93.3 Austin be in for another format change? We think so, as Waterloo Media has launched its version of the rapidly growing bilingual AC format on the 97.1 translator that had been doing Spanish CHR. We expect this format will soon be upgraded to 93.3. Also, Cumulus has eliminated two of its 24 hour formats distributed by Westwood1, leading to a change in Erie. We also go over the list of seasonal channels on the satellites. All that and more comes your way this week.
Clearing the Static 2443
This time around, The Radio Kid flies solo for this edition of Clearing the Static.
Clearing the Static 2442
Once again Bob and The Radio Kid get together to discuss the latest radio industry happenings on Clearing the Static.
Clearing the Static 2441
There's a lot to catch up on this week, as we didn't get to a lot of news last week. Among the highlights, The Oasis has returned to Cincinnati, Seven Mountains and Commonwealth Broadcasting are swapping stations in Kentucky, and what leads us on a mini tangent about the end of the world is that Family Radio is entering Nashville. There are also several other changes you need to listen to the program to find out about.
Clearing the Static 2440
There's a lot to break down on this program. We start by covering some of the radio impacts from the storm that hit the southeast last week. Then, the FCC has finally approved Audacy's bankruptcy restructuring plan. That leads to some pointed commentary from well respected industry vet Scott Fybush, and some equally pointed criticism from the Radio Kid. We then do get to some of the other happenings this week.
Clearing the Static 2439
It's a quiet week in radio, but we still manage to only have six minutes to fill at the end of the program.
First, a brilliantly executed afternoon show announcement in Greenville, SC.
Later, three Canadian stations we thought were shutting down have found buyers.
Also, Peoria, Illinois has hit shuffle. All that and more this week.
Clearing the Static 2438
After catching up on a couple stories from last week, we cover a few changes this week, including Hot AC gone for talk in Ohio, two Oregon stations have returned to the air after bankruptcy, and we discuss HD Radio, particularly when it comes to Audacy. All that and more this week.
Clearing the Static 2437
This week, we finish up with some news from last week, including two Iowa stations that have new owners. Later, Magnum has a new classic country outlet in Wisconsin, Loud Media is making some changes in upstate New York, and Burlington, Vermont may be in for some changes. Also, Bloomberg is ending its LMA of 960 KNEW in San Francisco, what will become of that station? Other developments covered this week include a country expansion in New Hampshire, and some other sales.

Clearing the Static 2436
We spend a lot of time on the east coast this week. Among the changes we discuss are the following:
We now know what's on 98.7 in New York. Also, could a flip of a long
running rock station to a news simulcast have been prompted by the
demise of WCBS? Later, it's off to Florida where a new rock station has
launched, and later Portland's Bella has a little sister in Seattle.
Sunday, September 1, 2024
Clearing the Static 2435
We actually have time to give WCBS a fair sendoff on this week's show, as we have some remaining time. Before that though, Salem continues to sell stations, one of which will result in a new sports, talk, and rock format. Also, a couple changes are taking place in Canada, as Chorus is shutting down an AM, and a new country station is coming to Toronto. That, plus some last minute changes in Austin, and much more on this week's program.

The Radio Kid is flying solo this week, and as she does, there's lots to talk about. We touch on some news from last week -- including the shutdown of CHML in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, but also the hope that may lie in a pair of stations there which are being relaunched by a new owner. Turing to this week's news: Both "Rock 92.9"'s in Boston, MA, and Raleigh, NC, are moving off their 92.9 spots on their respective dials. Cromwell is adding a third Sports brand in Nahsville, TN. And, we've got station sales, station sales, and even more station sales! It's all here on this week's edition of Clearing The Static -- the radio show that talks about radio!

will become of 98.7 at the end of the month? That and more is discussed.

Clearing the Static 2432
Once again, we think it's going to be a quiet week, yet we can't get through the station sales.
Before we get there though, Jack has become Bob in Fayetteville NC, a
sports network change in Harrisburg, and Salem continues selling assets
with the sale of its Fish in Little Rock. This leads to speculation
about some of the other stations, including Portland. Also, a big change
is coming to Kansas City that neither of us were expecting.
Clearing the Static 2431
As has been typical lately, we don't think we have a lot to talk about, but we manage to fill the hour.
First, could more giants be stomping around in Indiana? We think so.
Then, a strange lease in San Diego. Other news includes a sale of a
station in Trenton that we think will go Spanish, a station going from
country to talk, and Calgary gaining an edge. All that and more on this
addition of CTS.
Friday, August 2, 2024
Clearing the Static 2430
It's a busier week than it has been here on CTS, but we still manage to get through all the news that exists.
Among the stories covered, My Town Media has retooled all of its country
stations across Kansas. Also, Connoisseur Media is selling two in
Maryland, and two stations have changed formats in South Bend, Indiana.
All that and more this week.

Clearing the Static 2429
We have a lot of changes in the south this week.
First, an innovative country station is gone from Fort Meyers, and later a format swap has taken place in Tampa.
Also, a programming partnership in Christian radio leads us on a side tangent about Family Radio.
We end with major cuts at Chorus in Canada. All that and more this week.
Sunday, July 14, 2024
Clearing the Static 2428
As it's the week the Radio Kid takes her annual vacation, Bob and Jake host this show.
After being plagued with technical difficulties and having to do the show by phone, here's what we discussed:
A pair of stations in southern New York has been sold, and Jake has some thoughts.
Later, we return to that part of the country for a change in Scranton,
PA. Other changes of note include rhythmic throwbacks coming to
Cleveland, a new Country station in Kansas, and the evolution of a
station in Dallas from news to news/talk.
Clearing the Static 2427
We've been saying it's a quiet week in radio for the past several weeks because it sure feels like it has been, yet we manage to fill an hour. This week, we have lots of sales, including a few we didn't get to from last week, an not many format changes. What format changes we do have include KMXP in Phoenix making a musical shift, and 107.9 in Champaign-Urbanna going Country. Also, we thought we had lost another student station, this time in the Pacific Northwest, but the station engineer debunked that speculation.
Clearing the Static 2426
It's a relatively quiet week in radio this week, though the flip of a recently acquired station leads to a side tangent about harder Vs. softer Alternative. Later, Seven Mountains is shaking things up in another of its markets, Chorus ends programming on two AM stations, a station in St. Lewis will switch from local to network programming until it is sold, and we do not agree with what just happened in Tulsa. All that and more this week.

Somehow for the last few months we think things are quiet, but then we fill almost the entire hour. This time, we do have a bit of time to present an aircheck that Bob received in a trade recently of KJR-FM from October 2002. Before that, Norson Media has announced what it is doing with its Austin stations. Also, a new Urban Alternative has launched in Kentucky. Also, the social AC Now format is gone from 102.7, replaced by the frequency's former Peak Alternative format. In addition to a few other domestic stories, we also talk this week about a trial shutdown of AM radio in Japan.

It's another quiet week this week, but somehow we manage to fill time. We start in Scranton this week, where Shamrock has purchased the FM in the market that was previously owned by Seven Mountains and quickly added it to its rock simulcast. Later, we go to Texas, where country has been knocked out. There's also a lot of news out of Chicago, as the suburbs have gained a classic alternative, and a public station we thought was shutting down is staying on the air for now. All that and more this week.

Clearing the Static 2421
What has become typical about the industry over the last month or so is that when we talk on Wednesday or even right up to production time is that we feel like we're going to have time to fill, then we get to the end of our news cycle and we only have a few minutes left. This week is no exception, as we have just the right amount of news to fill the hour. We read some names affected by Beasley's layoffs a couple weeks ago at the end of the program, but first a new Classic Hits station comes to Missouri, Alpha makes major cuts in small Midwestern markets, a troubled Birmingham station is sold, and there's way too much coast in New Jersey. All that and more this week.
Clearing the Static 2420
First off, I apologize for the fact that we appear to be talking all over each other in this week's show. The platform we use records each person's audio separately, but for some reason, the Radio Kid's audio didn't upload right away, and there are some gaps in her audio. Nevertheless we do have some stuff to talk about, including Townsquare selling three stations in upstate New York, WWFW shifting from variety hits to classic hits, and cuts at Alpha Media Chicago that could lead to a format change. All that and more this week.
Clearing the Static 2419
We have just enough news this week that we only have time to briefly touch on the layoffs that happened at multiple companies this week. Elswhere, Lotus has launched another Hank, a contemporary worship station comes to North Carolina, and two classic hip-hop icons come to rural Illinois. All that and much much more this week.
Clearing the Static 2418
It's a quiet week this week, but we still manage to find a way to fill the hour. The biggest story of the week is a format change appears likely at KEGL in Dallas. Also, what's going on at Power 98.3 in Phoenix? Also Retro Country comes to Corpus Christie, and a few other developments this week.

Because we spent so much time on Seattle developments last week, we have a lot to catch up on this week. Fortunately, we don't have a lot to say about things, but we still didn't get to everything. Among the big stories we did get to, Denver has a Christian hip-hop station, and it is the first commercial one in that format. Also, a buyer has been found for two of the Yaquina Bay stations. Also, there's a new standards gold rush in Anchorage, and Hot in Harrisburg has gone rhythmic. We talk about all that and much more this week.

We talk about what eventually happened this week in South Carolina as Norson Media has taken over operations of WSPA, and we touch on a couple other stories, but we spend the majority of our time talking about the big changes in Seattle this week. On Monday, Hubbard dropped AAA on 98.9 KPNW, but hours later, Lotus dropped Star 101.5 for Hank FM. We unpack just about every angle of that story this week.

Just like last week, we think it's going to be a quiet week, but a tangent fills most of the available time. This week, it's Austin's KASE 101, which after 40 years of branding as such, has gone to actually using its frequency of 100.7. In other news, the biggest story of the week comes out of Audacy, as the company has filed its bankruptcy exit plan with the FCC, revealing it will have to divest one station. Elsewhere, speaking of Audacy, they have turned in two licenses in Las Vegas, and on a completely unrelated note, Saga is selling one in Florida.

Next, a new gold-based alternative comes to Lawton, and a few other changes.

This leads into a long discussion of what Nash stations are left on both
brands, and which ones have either reverted or flipped formats since
