Clearing The Static 1834
ssues discussed on this week's show include:
1. ESPN Radio is out, and Fox Sports Radio is in at 2 Lehigh Valley
AM stations. Does this mean more growth for Fox Sports Radio?
2. PRI and PRX, 2 of the minor players in public radio are merging.
What does this development mean for affiliate stations -- especially
smaller ones like our flagship, GCR?
3. The rest of the scripts stations have a buyer -- Summit Media. We
break down what this means for both companies, as well as the impact
on indevidual markets.
4. Reno, NV's gone crazy for the 80's... but it took KPGF long enough
to notice.
5. But that's not all, that's not all, Reno's "Wolf" is moving down
the hall. And if you miss Alternative, you'll have fun with Reno's
new "Alt 92.1."
6. ESPN is moving off of 97.3 in Mansfield, OH so that 97.3 can put
on a "Spur." It's a locally focused, all encompassing country format
with an attentiveness to their spotloads.
7. The Twin Cities of Minnesota become eclectic once again, as KTCZ
(97.1) brings back some of it's well-known AAA focus along with it's
Hot AC format. Can radio listeners benefit from stations like this?
We discuss.
8. Saga brings Pure Oldies to another market. This time, it's
Mitchel, SD on 103.5.
9. And there's another Oldies station on the air -- this time in
Travis City, MI, where WCCW has dropped ESPN (a format it had for 17
years) in favor of Oldies as "Radio 13." This leads to a broader
discussion of how radio is doing a good thing by targeting such
listeners.
10. Club Steppin' comes to Chicago via a 95.1 translator. What is
club steppin'? Listen to CTS, and find out.

Clearing THe Static 1833
Issues discussed on this week's program include:
1. An AM radio station in Fulton, NY, WOSW, is back on the air --
albeit simulcasting another Syracuse station. But will this
arrangement last?
2. Media 1 now owns everything in Jamestown, NY, as the company buys
"Kiss" WKZA and "Lake" WLKW from Cross County Communications. The
Lake, however, is getting some "K-Love," and Jake Longwell has very
passionate feelings on this.
3. A Texas Country music battle breaks out in Lubbock with the launch
of "Texas 93.1."
4. Southwest Wisconsin is "Z-Rock"ing, as WDMP (810) launches an
Active Rock format with a translator now attached to it.
5. Guess where "Guess FM" went! If you guessed WOWW (1430), you'd be correct.
6. If you live in Clearfield, PA, your "Passport" to Classic Hits is
ready for you on WCPA. This means the Oldies have stopped traveling.
7. EMF launches a third format in "K-Love Classics." Is EMF planning
to make more station buys to put it on the air? Jake longwell has
strong feelings about this. This leads to a broader discussion as to
what, if anything, can be done to stop stations from selling to EMF?
Is there a way to make people support their favorite stations so they
don't sell? We discuss.

Clearing The Static 1832
Issues discussed on this week's CTS include:
1. The Sinclaire/Tribune merger is dead -- leading to speculation
about what will happen next. This leads to a wider discussion about
de-regulation.
2. 2 more Scripts clusters are sold, as Lotus Communications buys in
Tucson, AZ, and Boise, ID. But in Tucson, 2 stations must be spun.
Guess what? They already have buyers!
3. A Detroit Gospel format rebrands as it moves off the 102.7
frequency that now belongs to EMF.
4. An AM station in the Riverside/San Bernardino market goes silent.
5. Morgantown, WV gets a third hit country station, as "Blake" comes to town.
6. We discuss the author of a recent article discussed on last week's
CTS, and her impact on The Radio Kid. This leads to a broader
discussion of meeting people who inspired us to get into radio.
