The Radio Kid's Rant! 42: More Potpourri

More potpourri on this rant. Enjoy!

Listen

Clearing the Static 1648

We spend much of this hour discussing the demise of The Mic, one of the last commercial stations committed to Progressive Talk/Liberal Talk in the US. What does this mean for the format? How can "Lib Talk" be made to be more attractive to broadcasters and advertisers? What role, if any, should noncommercial community radio have in keeping the format alive? Later, we touch on a new Alternative station on the air in Chattanooga, and an AM station in upstate NY is for sale, who might buy it? And what impact could the sale have on the station's programming and its commitment to full service to the community? It's all here on CTS.

We open the show with the sad news of the passing of a dear friend and long time supporter of this program. Then, it's on to listener feedback, and a discussion about specialty music shows on commercial radio stations. Later, changes to the pop music radio landscape in Syracuse, a new "radio war" brewing between the two community LGBT music shows in Rochester, and more Urban radio coming to Atlanta, but can so many stations in the same format possibly last? It's all here on this edition of CTS.

Listen

Clearing the Static 1645

We open the show with news about a new policy we have regarding the expression of more controversial and provocative views on the program. Then, we note our sixth anniversary before launching into talk about radio in upstate New York, in Batavia and Mohawk, respectively. Also, a new Classic Rock station comes to Spokane, and K-Love displaces Classic Hits in Palm Springs, but probably only temporarily, as it appears that Classic Hits will appear on another frequency there. And, Chattanooga gets an all-Christmas station, and it's the same one they had last year. So what will the new format be on the frequency come Dec. 26th? We have some guesses. It's all here on this edition of CTS.
